I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. Ephesians 1:18
Hope is an essential element in human life. Expecting a good future is necessary for us to survive. Because it has such an impact on how someone heals, nurses and doctors are taught to foster hope in their patients. Even when all expectation for a cure is gone, if a patient has something to hope for, they tend to live longer.
As believers, we know that hope is a gift from God. When all seems dark, it is the sliver of light by which we keep moving forward. But God has so much more for us than just a sliver of hope.
In Ephesians 1:18, Paul prays that our hearts will be flooded with light so we can do more than creep forward in the dark. He asks God to illuminate our understanding so we can live in the confident hope that Jesus gives us.
What is this confident hope? It is hope that the best really is to come – that through Jesus we have eternal and abundant life. Hope that when we pray God hears and sees us and cares about the things that concern us. Hope that the Lord will one day make all things right again.
We can be confident in this hope because we are God’s “holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance.” YOU are the rich and glorious inheritance that God our Father has given to His son, Jesus. That’s amazing, and true! And because it’s true, you can confidently hope in Jesus for everything.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you! Please flood my heart today with your light so I can grab ahold of the confident hope you offer me. Help me remember how much you love me and how precious I am to you. Precious because you call me so and gave your own life to give me eternal hope. Amen.
ACTION: Please share the hope you have experienced by listening to SPIRIT 105.3 by giving!
