“What do you want for Christmas?” my husband asked nonchalantly. I thought about winter-scent inspired candles and inspiring signs at Hobby Lobby. I dreamed big about a new hutch for our dining room or a used bookcase to hold our books in the garage.
I shared a lot of the above along with the prerequisite, “But, you don’t have to get me anything.”
Then I ping-ponged back, “What do you want for Christmas?” It was a pointless question because my husband is very practical and doesn’t especially enjoy receiving gifts that aren’t. Ironically, I enjoy finding very IMpractical gifts! You see the catch 22.
What Will said next melted my heart: “I want a goat for Christmas.”
Yes, Scott Carty and I have been inviting you to give a goat via World Concern’s Global Gift Guide this Christmas. I love talking about the opportunity at home, first because goats are simply funny creatures. The girls are called nannies and does and the boys are billies and bucks. HA! Secondly, I’ve come to understand that a goat under the Christmas tree is LIFE-GIVING and LIFE-CHANGING to a family in poverty.
Will understood (without my ever having to say it) that in asking for a goat, he was giving me the gift of GIVING TO HIM. It’s practical AND extravagant because a family in this needy world will now have some of their needs met… for only 43 dollars!
