Great Scott! Have you heard? Today is “Back to the Future Day!” If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll recall at the end of Back to the Future, Doc travels back from the future to transport Marty to October 21, 2015 to handle some family issues. To quote old Doc Brown: “It’s your kids, Marty. Something’s gotta be done about your kids!” Shortly thereafter, the DeLorean levitates off the road, flying off into the sky up to 88 mph to travel through time (because they “don’t have enough road to get up to 88”). Below are some of the best Back to the Future references we’ve seen popping up today. If you have any suggestions, please add them to the comments! Back to the Future Trivia
- In early versions of the script, the time machine was going to be a REFRIDGERATER instead of a DeLorean… I’m guessing they changed it as fridges rarely “run” that fast… plus, they’re not likely able to handle the 1.21 jigawatts required to charge the time circuits. Joking aside, they actually changed it because they feared children would try to role-play the movie and lock themselves inside their own refrigerators. Good call!
- Rather than our beloved Michael J. Fox filling the sneakers of Marty, the film originally starred Eric Stoltz. However, while they were filming, the director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale decided that he wasn’t a right fit for the part resulting in 5 weeks of film being re-recorded with Michael J. Fox. More on that here.
