If you had only one friend, you would want it to be Betty.
Betty. My grandmother’s only friend.
My grandmother is 90 and she lives in an assisted living home with a lot of loving people. But Betty is something special.
My grandmother can’t see anymore. Her eyes began to fail her about 10 years ago. This makes it difficult for her to really reach out and make friends and even have conversations with those around her. However, Betty always had a way of making my grandmother smile and laugh.
Betty is pleasingly plump with really red rouge and remembers everyone she ever meets. Betty died three weeks ago.
When talking to my Aunt Pam the other day she mentioned seeing Betty just two weeks before she passed away. She said when she walked in the door of the Ellijay Nursing Home she could see Betty from a distance coming towards her with a big smile on her face. And she yelled out to her, “Pam! I got Saved!” Then, Betty proceeded to share with my Aunt how great life is now that she’s saved and how much she’s looking forward to life and what comes after. Then, just like that. . .two weeks later Betty passed.
It occurred to me that she found Jesus two weeks before she died.
Just two weeks.
It just shows that our stories aren’t over yet and that God doesn’t give up on us. Ever.
