Mr. Aguilar has kept over 125 6-8th graders not only engaged, but learning to play in Jazz band, Wind ensemble, Orchestra and Marching band!!! As the only middle school marching band in the state of Washington, John had all of his students film themselves playing the Singh that they would have played together, then he spliced all 117 of them onto Adobe premiere and published the Singh online as the entire band playing together. And that was last spring during Covid early days.
This year he has continued to teach at those level of expectation, the students have continued to learn at all grades and all levels of musical ability. He had even recorded his group playing with pop icon Kevin Ross to play his song Lift Every Voice and Sing. This joint effort will be published online this week. Links to other online productions are below. As a former fun major at the U. W., Mr. Aguilar holds every one of his students to the highest standard. His Jazz 1 group also won the Sweepstakes at the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton jazz festival last March.
