YWCA Pierce County opened the first domestic violence shelter in our state in 1976. Since that time, we continue to offer safe and confidential temporary housing to survivors and their children fleeing an immediately dangerous situation due to domestic violence. Shelter is up to 90 days and includes basic needs, support services, and 24-hour advocacy.
Our emergency safe shelter is made up of individual apartment units where each family can heal in beautiful, welcoming spaces that offer privacy within our secure facility. With private kitchens and bathrooms in each unit, there is space for parents and their children to heal and thrive. All survivors are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, religion or sexual orientation. A serious concern for many families is leaving pets behind, which is why we welcome all types of family pets to join their owners in the comfort of our safe shelter.
