May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. –Romans 15:13
I often check the Weather App on my phone. I like knowing the temperature outside and if I can expect sun, rain, or snow. I like to be prepared, and because meteorologists know a lot more than I do about air currents and so forth … I trust them.
Do you ever wish there was an App that could tell you exactly what was going to happen today or tomorrow, or in the future? That kind of an App would help us be more prepared, don’t you think? There’s only one problem … sometimes Apps (and people) aren’t right. They don’t know everything. Through no fault of their own, they fail us.
The good news is that there’s someone who knows far more than any App or human, and He will never fail us. That someone is the Lord. He says in Isaiah 46:10 …
Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.
Now, most of the time God doesn’t tell us more than a few steps ahead about our future because He wants to protect us from information overload. But He knows what’s beyond those steps and He’s got plans for you. You can trust those plans are good because He loves you with an infinite love. Just like Jeremiah 29:11 says …
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Aren’t you glad that God knows your future and promises there are good things in it? I sure am. We can put our hope in Him. When we do, that simple choice invites the Holy Spirit to fill us with hope that overflows to everyone around us. Then we can say these words with confidence, like Blessing Offor does in the song “Brighter Days” …
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
I swear that love will find you in your pain
I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
Oh, ashes fall from burning dreams
Oh, never lived through times like these
Oh, if you’re trying hard to breathe in the dark
In the dark
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
I swear that love will find you in your pain
I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins
I know there’s gonna be some brighter day
Oh, if your screams don’t make a sound
Oh, if your walls are crashing down
Oh, if your heart just cries too loud all the time
All time, whoa
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
I swear that love will find you in your pain
I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
