A Rainbow in My Hand

Have you ever felt like you needed an encouraging sign from God that He was hearing your prayers?

I was struggling with a problem and needed some comfort and assurance from Him.  I hadn’t asked for a sign, but He is so good and loving, that right when I needed it, He gave me a beautiful ray of hope.

After a difficult day, I walked down the hall towards my kitchen and something caught my eye on the floor of the hallway.  I knelt down and touched the floor.  Color splashed onto my hand.  It was a tiny rainbow!  I turned my hand over and the brilliant colors splashed across my palm as the oval-shaped rainbow fit perfectly in my hand.

I was awestruck by the stunning palette of colors.  The top row was deep orange, and then the next rows were varying shades of yellow, from bright to pale to almost clear in the middle.  The bottom colors were aqua blue and deep violet.  I felt like I was holding living light created by God.  I closed my hand and held tightly to my tiny rainbow and was reminded of God’s covenant promise to us when we see His miraculous rainbows.  It reminded me that we are to cling tightly to God’s promises even when we don’t understand His ways.

The rainbow in my hand only lasted about a minute before the colors gradually faded and I could no longer see them.  Tears rolled down my cheeks as I prayed and thanked God for hearing my prayers and giving me a sense of his presence.  I knew that He would see me through my difficulty.

I’ve lived in my house for over twelve years and I’ve never seen that little prism of light on the hallway floor before.  Perhaps it’s always been there on a sunny day coming through the window as a refraction of light.  Or maybe this was the first time it appeared and God used it to give me hope.

For three days I thought about my little rainbow of hope and it helped me push through my rain clouds.  Then, God gave me another surprise.  On the fourth day, two tiny oval rainbows appeared on my hallway floor!  Once again, I knelt down and this time I was able to hold one in each hand.  I had a wonderful time of prayer while kneeling and holding onto God’s rainbow promises.  I felt so encouraged.  It was like I’d found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

If you’re going through a hard time right now, remember that He promises to walk beside us through all the storms in life as He loves, guides and comforts us.

Genesis 9:16 – Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

Ezekiel 1:27-28 –  I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.  Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

Revelation 4:1-3 –  After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne.  And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was ^la rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald.
