I don’t know whether you are into observing Lent or not. But, it’s a great time to think about and reflect on the time when Jesus was getting ready to go to the cross to save us, and even to think about the things in my life that made His sacrifice necessary. What must it have been like for Him, knowing what He was going to be walking into? How fierce is a love that would voluntarily go through what He did. My 17-year-old daughter Camille wrote a poem about Lent. I hope it inspires you as much as it did me.
LENT
Dark ashes
Cold death
Small sacrifice
Guilt unspeakable
Barren land
Weak will
Empty place
Wait unbearable
Donkey’s foal
Humble King
Via Dolorosa
Hosanna unretainable
Dirty feet
Dirty heart
Last meal
Darkness unstoppable
Bloody nails
Torn cloak
Final breath
Price unpayable
Sealed tomb
Crushed hopes
Gripping shame
Fear unquenchable
Glowing sunlight
Folded linen
New hope
Joy unbelievable
Assuaged fear
Bolstered strength
Sanctified spirit
Grace unfathomable
