“In Minnesota, it just shouldn’t happen. It’s like winning the Tour de France on a Big Wheel. You know, you can only hope, but it worked.” ~ Travis Gienger, Pumpkin Grower
Our special guest today knows how to squash the competition! Travis Gienger, a horticulture teacher from Minnesota, grew a gargantuan pumpkin and he didn’t make one pie! He babied it on a 35-hour road trip to California with the goal of trying to win the 49th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off!
Travis won the contest, as his labor of love weighed in at 2,560 pounds and that set a new record! Join Travis and Erica for a conversation about growing a pumpkin of this magnitude, traveling with it, and how the super squash got its fantastic name.
